Hand Pumper - 1837

The Toledo Firefighters Museum is proud to have
on display the hand pumper, affectionately
nick-named "Neptune", as it belonged to the
Neptune Engine and Hose Company No. 1.
This pumper was built by James Smith, NY, NY
in 1837.  James Smith was probably the
largest hand-pumper builder in NYC.
"Neptune" was shipped here via the Erie Canal.
