The Toledo Firefighters Museum is proud to have on display the hand pumper, affectionately nick-named "Neptune", as it belonged to the Neptune Engine and Hose Company No. 1. This pumper was built by James Smith, NY, NY in 1837. James Smith was probably the largest hand-pumper builder in NYC. "Neptune" was shipped here via the Erie Canal. History courtesy of
